Mixed welcome from major unpaid carers’ charity after Autumn Statement

I'm John Warburton with news that a major charity supporting unpaid carers has given a mixed welcome to yesterday’s Autumn Statement by the Chancellor. Carers UK has praised Jeremy Hunt’s announcement of increasing benefits including Carers’ Allowance in line with inflation. But the charity describes the continuing lack of financial support for carers, beyond the basic allowance, as “deeply disappointing”. Carers’ UK Chief Executive Helen Walker adds that Carers’ Allowance remains the lowest benefit of its kind, despite carers providing 35 hours of care.
