I’m Matt Rosser with news that the UK Health Security Agency has published data showing that during the heatwave on the 18 and 19 July emergency departments were seeing on average 150 heat or sunstroke cases, compared with around 10 in the days before and after the temperature spike. The agency found that attendances increased across all age groups and regions. Speaking to the Independent, Antonio Gasparrini, a professor of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said he estimated England and Wales could see nearly 1,000 excess deaths due to high temperatures during the heatwave.
