I’m Matt Rosser with news that with around 40,000 unfilled nursing vacancies across the NHS in England, the new Health Secretary has ordered an immediate increase in overseas recruitment. Steve Barclay says civil servants will “work at pace” on plans which focus on recruitment from countries like India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. He also suggested that social care could bolster staffing numbers by bringing in overseas workers who have nursing qualifications but not a high enough standard of English for front-line NHS work.
