I’m Paul Hutton with news that the Department for Work and Pensions says it is working on what it calls “an enhanced notification strategy” to help ensure people claiming Carers’ Allowance can fulfil their obligations to inform it when changes in their circumstances have occurred. It follows the revelation that the government is clawing back more 250 million pounds from over 134 thousand unpaid carers over benefit infringements that have been attributed to being due to government failures. Some carers have been saddled with debts and even with criminal convictions as a result.
