£42 million funding gap in NHS Highland

 Less than a year ago NHS Highland’s finances were believed to be on the road to recovery after a difficult period but now it’s having to look again at spending cuts

I'm James MacDonald with news that NHS Highland currently has no plan to deal with a £42 million funding gap. It’s being blamed on a combination of inflation, pay rises and pre-existing financial pressures. The health board hopes a Cost Improvement Programme can be agreed with the Scottish Government but they’ve said more funding “will not be forthcoming” this year. Less than a year ago NHS Highland’s finances were believed to be on the road to recovery after a difficult period but now it’s having to look again at spending cuts.  Chairman Professor Boyd Robertson says they’re entering very turbulent waters.
